Major Porn Website Wrangled Into Compliance With Texas Law Following a lawsuit from the attorney general, the operator of a pornographic website will establish guidelines to abide by state age verification laws and is required to pay $675,000 to Texas. Will Biagini has the details [[link removed]]. (Because the website name is vulgar, it will not be used in the Texas Minute.)
Multi Media LLC, which owns the website, was sued by Attorney General Ken Paxton for failing to comply with the new state law. The law makes companies subject to fines of up to $10,000 per day if they are not in compliance and $250,000 if a child is exposed to pornographic content during that period. The companies can also be fined for illegally retaining identifying information.
Other major porn companies similarly violating Texas law have been sued by Paxton, including Hammy Media and Aylo Global.
“It’s a very positive development that this company has decided to follow the law and begin reasonable age verification measures designed to protect Texas children from harmful material,” said Paxton [[link removed]]. “Other pornography companies should follow this example and willingly choose to do the right thing and abide by the law.”

Laredo Journalist Turns to Supreme Court After Arrest for Questions After a series of court reversals, Laredo-based independent journalist Priscilla Villarreal is seeking to have her case heard before the U.S. Supreme Court [[link removed]] following her arrest by Laredo law enforcement in 2017.
According to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression, local officials were angered by her criticism [[link removed]]. Police “dusted off” old statutes never before used against journalists to criminalize her work. Specifically, she was charged with asking a police officer to verify facts about a high-profile suicide and fatal car accident.
She was charged under a statute that makes it a felony to ask government officials for nonpublic information if the requester would benefit from the information provided. Laredo officials argued that Villarreal would benefit by gaining popularity on social media for publishing a story on the topic.
“This is a case that should alarm every American,” said FIRE Senior Attorney JT Morris [[link removed]]. “Every one of us has a constitutional right to question the government, but when government officials answer with arrest warrants, they must be held accountable.” Number of the Day
