There’s been a lot of coverage recently on Arizona’s ultra-extreme law from 1864 banning abortion -- and how Republicans are scrambling to repeal it asap, so it doesn’t cost them seats in Congress or the state legislature in November.

Here’s the thing. South Dakota’s abortion ban is nearly identical to the 1864 Arizona ban. The law was immediately triggered into effect once the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and our allies at TakeItBack.Org and Dakotans4Health immediately went into action to restore reproductive rights for more than 400,000 women statewide.

Now, your help is urgently needed.

Just as Mother Jones reports, the South Dakota State Legislature is trying to stop us from codifying the protections of Roe v. Wade into the South Dakota Constitution and they’re using the same tactics we saw in Ohio last year. Their tactics ultimately backfired and helped us win back full reproductive rights in Ohio -- yet another red state victory just like Kansas, Montana, and Kentucky.

Now, Republicans are running scared in South Dakota too and they’re trying every dirty trick in the book to stop us from winning.

Republican State Rep. Jon Hansen, who is also on the board of directors for South Dakota Right to Life, successfully spearheaded a ‘voter intimidation, signature withdrawal’ bill to try and stop us.

This new law now subjects voters to corrosive tactics and intimidation by extremists who will undertake extraordinary measures to persuade voters who signed the Restore Roe initiated amendment to withdraw their signature and boot us from the ballot before citizens can vote.

Desperate? Yes.

Could it work? Maybe.
