Hi John,
The coronavirus pandemic has not only shown us how unprepared our governments and our healthcare systems are for health crises of this scale but also how, in moments of real crisis, we can marshal extraordinary resources to solve problems facing society.

It’s also shown us that while the wealthy get bailouts, the costs of fighting a crisis may fall on the most vulnerable and least responsible.

Can the world harness the solidarity displayed over the last few weeks to make real and lasting change for the global south? Can we fight corporate greed and deliver a new equitable reality for the least well off and most oppressed?

This Thursday, join our international panel of speakers to examine what’s wrong with the solutions that are being peddled by the 1%, and some of the alternatives, such as debt cancellation and a wealth tax on those corporations still profiting in the crisis.

He is the head of the Political Economy Unit at the Third World Network-Africa, conducting research and advocacy on globalisation, trade and development. He is a regular contributor to a number of publications on a wide-range of subjects relating to globalisation in Africa.

Myriam Vander Stichele
Senior researcher at the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO) Myriam will be joining us live from the Netherlands. She is an expert on global finance, free trade agreements and the World Trade Organisation. She has recently developed the idea of a Corona virus Survival Tax.

Tim Jones
Many of you will know Tim Jones from his work with Jubilee Debt Campaign where he leads their policy team in the campaign to cancel global south debt, an even more pressing issue in the current crisis.
