Friends,

On October 7th, we witnessed a barbaric and unprovoked attack on our greatest democratic ally in the Middle East, Israel, by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists. Since then, countless innocent men, women, and children have been held hostage, tortured, and killed by Hamas. This senseless violence is sickening and evil.

Unfortunately, President Biden’s continued appeasement of Iran and failure to support Israel has escalated aggression against our ally. Just a few weeks ago - for the first time in history - the Iranian regime directly attacked Israel, firing over 300 missiles and drones at the nation. The United States must continue to stand with Israel as it defends itself against these terrorists, which is why Congress recently passed much-needed defense funding to support our ally in its efforts.

The nation has also watched in horror as so many of our college campuses, particularly the so-called “elite” schools, have erupted into hotbeds of antisemitic hate following the attacks on Israel. Pro-Hamas protestors have plunged campuses into chaos. Many Jewish students have been harassed, assaulted, and threatened because of who they are and what they believe.

Let’s be clear: these are not peaceful protests we are seeing; these are antisemitic mobs. Yet, university leadership, like Columbia University President Minouche Shafik, has failed to take serious action to get the situation under control, protect Jewish students, and ensure those responsible face consequences. Instead, they have allowed the situation to become so dangerous to the point where Jewish students no longer feel safe, are forced to learn partly remote, and are seeking shelter off-campus.

This is unacceptable and morally wrong. House Republicans are fighting to root out this anti-Jewish hate from America’s college campuses and hold university administrations accountable for failing to protect Jewish students from being targeted.

Whether it is attacks by terrorists or antisemitic threats, Israel and Jewish students at our college campuses will never stand alone in the face of this evil. Rest assured, I will always support them.

Until Next Time,

Richard Hudson

Member of Congress
