Delivering for El Paso and West Texas I served our country for 20 years in the U.S. Navy. As veterans, we step up to the plate for each other—it’s engrained in who we are. This week, I visited the site of the new El Paso VA hospital. The new facility will be located on Fort Bliss near the William Beaumont Army Medical Center and will improve access to care for more than 54,000 veterans in the El Paso area. Once completed, this new VA facility will expand healthcare services and lessen VA wait times to ensure our veterans are well taken care of. Visit to Fort Bliss I stopped by to visit Major General Isenhower while I was at Fort Bliss on Wednesday. We discussed ways we can work together to deliver for our troops stationed on base. I'm very proud to represent Fort Bliss in Congress! Supporting Texas Agriculture This week, I met with Farm Bureau members in El Paso to discuss how we can work together to support Texas’ agriculture industry. I sit on the House Appropriations Committee in Congress. The Constitution calls on lawmakers to pass legislation to decide what initiatives our taxpayer dollars will go toward. Stay tuned, and rest assured that I will be fighting for Texas' farmers and ranchers as Congress begins the appropriations process in the upcoming weeks. A Helping Paw for CBP Personnel Since 2007, over 150 Border Patrol Agents and CBP employees have died by suicide. In response, CBP launched the Support Canine Program, which aims to stop the spike in mental health crises among CBP personnel. This week, I introduced the PEARL Act to improve this program and make sure our law enforcement has one more tool to improve mental health outcomes at CBP.
