Recently, I saw firsthand how second chance breakfast is making a
powerful difference at Valleydale Elementary in Azusa, California.
This program provides an opportunity for kids to have breakfast after
their first or second period - helping school heroes provide
nutritious food for kids who might not be getting enough to eat at
home.
Bertha Carmona, a cafeteria worker in Azusa, knows how important these
programs are. "I was one of those parents working an overnight
shift," she shared. "I used to come back home at 7 a.m.
and barely had time to bring my kids to school. I know what parents
are going through and this is huge."
