*"A message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen"*

*Thoughts for the PM*

Stay home graphic

Following reports that the Prime Ministers health has worsened overnight, my thoughts and prayers are with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery. I know that many of the Councils workforce are taking the necessary steps to isolate or are unwell at this difficult time, and I thank them for their dedication and wish them a speedy recovery too.

This really does emphasize to us all that no one is immune from this disease, which is why it is so important that we all follow the instructions to stay home and stay safe. My thoughts are with everyone across the city who is suffering from or has been effected by this pandemic.

*Help and advice for local businesses *

Nottingham Skyline

The Government has brought out a raft of emergency measures to support businesses, which are most welcome but we know that many local businesses are finding it difficult to navigate new schemes, guidance and legislation. Our business support team is here to help; I urge local businesses to contact the team at [email protected]. Our team of small business experts is here to help local business through this uncertain and worrying time with issues such as:

* Applying for a business support grant
* Coronavirus job retention scheme
* Deferring VAT and Income Tax payments
* And much more

*and for the local workforce*

Its also a worrying time for households across the city, not only for our own and our loved ones health, but also personal finances. Unfortunately, many people are finding themselves made redundant from work. Again, there is a lot of information out there to help people and it can feel overwhelming. Our web page Support to find work, claim benefits or get help [ [link removed] ] has been put together to help Nottingham people find what they need to know and where to go for help and support.

There are still many companies out there taking on new workers, Nottingham Jobs [ [link removed] ] can help you find local opportunities. The team are there to offer specialist support to both job seekers and employers.

Plus we are still urgently recruiting for care workers Nottingham City Council Social Care Jobs [ [link removed] ]

*Books and more*

Online library

Our libraries are an incredible resource for providing information, education, entertainment and more, and it was a hard decision to temporarily close them. The Libraries team has worked incredibly hard to bring the library into homes across the city with the launch of the Online Library including eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines, eNewspapers and eReference books. And they arent stopping there - over the coming weeks, videos of songs and storytimes will be added to the collection, along with many other ideas in the pipeline, so enjoy for now and watch out for more to come!
