John,
As a direct action organization, we pride ourselves at being on the front lines, working for change: planning actions for volunteers to take to the streets and putting our bodies on the line for our values and beliefs.
But right now, things are different. COVID-19 has caused massive changes to our lives in an effort to keep as many people safe and healthy as possible. We are social distancing, remaining in our homes, and isolating as much as we can.
So, what can direct action look like now?
Care. With schools, daycares, and other care facilities forced to close, we know many of you are taking a hard hit, trying to continue working while homeschooling kids, entertaining toddlers, caring for relatives, and shouldering even more responsibilities than normal. We want to encourage you to be gentle with yourself during this time. Do what you can, when you can, with what you have.
Community. Usually we are the ones encouraging people to show up, but now we are asking for everyone to stay in. If you’re aching for some activism, we have a ton of online activities to participate in. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for easy, home-based ways to continue the fight for increased access to abortion.
Connection. Check in on people (from a distance!) A text, a call, an email, a Zoom hangout – these things are more important than ever.
While we don’t know how long this will last, we know it will end. Until then, we want to make sure you know that we are still here, planning and executing bold actions that create a more favorable climate for abortion rights and reproductive justice. And we’re so happy you’re with us.
Help us continue during this time with a donation.
Sincerely,
Erin Matson and Pamela Merritt
