With nearly half of all votes in 2020 and over a third in 2022 submitted by mail, any cutbacks in postal services now could jeopardize the timely counting of millions of ballots.
Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has yet to announce any safeguards to protect vote-by-mail, while under DeJoy, mail slowed as soon as he took the reins. Mail is slower today than it was in 2020 because DeJoy degraded service standards.
It’s time for the USPS Inspector General, the USPS Board of Governors, and the Postal Regulatory Commission to step in, stop Louis DeJoy, and protect vote-by-mail immediately.

As we approach the 2024 election, the U.S. Postal Service will play a crucial role in facilitating many voters' ability to cast their ballots. Despite this, Trump-appointed Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has yet to implement any safeguards to protect the vote-by-mail process, while he continues to aggressively move forward with his disastrous 10-year plan.
When DeJoy took over, mail delivery slowed and costs increased. Today, the mail is even slower than in 2020 due to his degradation of service standards. This is especially alarming as nearly half of all votes in 2020 were cast by mail, with nearly a third in 2022 relying on this critical service.

Senator Gary Peters, who chairs the committee overseeing the USPS, has demanded answers from Postmaster General DeJoy regarding changes that could delay election mail. Senators Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez-Masto have highlighted concerns about rerouting over 100,000 Nevada mail-in ballots to California, potentially disrupting timely vote counting. Additionally, Senator Bernie Sanders and 20 colleagues have voiced significant worries about the effects of these changes on the delivery of prescriptions, local mail, and mail-in ballots.
Every day that these critical questions go unanswered, DeJoy’s privatization plan continues to pose a growing risk to voting by mail in the upcoming 2024 election.
Sign the petition to Congress: It’s time for the USPS Inspector General, the USPS Board of Governors, and the Postal Regulatory Commission to step in and stop Louis DeJoy to ensure that our right to vote by mail is protected.
