John, it's Hank Johnson.

Since I first ran for Congress in 2006, I've been invested in getting to know my constituents and being a fierce advocate for the people of my district in Congress – and I have quite the story to share about how that dedication paid off.

Let me set it up for you: It's late summer day in 2006, right after the Democratic Primary between me, my opponent (an incumbent who had been in Congress for 10 years), and one other.
My opponent thought she would sail through the primary, the general, and straight back to Congress with no hurdles, but I had been working hard through the winter and spring of that year to connect with the folks in the district, listen to their concerns, and let them know what kind of solutions I was going to bring to Congress for people like us.

After holding that seat for all those years, I nearly bested her in the Democratic primary. Since she couldn't secure a majority of the votes, we were forced to go to a runoff.

Debate after debate ensued over that month-long period, and my opponent kicked into overdrive trying to reach back out to her constituents – and it finally caught up to her.

In the summer heat, my opponent briefly fainted out on the street while trying to drum up support and catch up to all the work I put in during the previous months.

Slow and steady wins the race, John. I won the 2006 Runoff Election, and I've been representing this district since.

I've never taken this opportunity to represent our community for granted, and I will always continue to put folks like you first in Congress.
All the work that I do to reform our Supreme Court, preserve our environment, protect reproductive freedom, and support our workers is not for special interests groups—I do this work to take care of everyday Americans, just like I campaigned on and was elected to do. Far-right extremists are not happy with that, and they're throwing their support behind my opposition this year. John, can you make a contribution today to help me defend my seat in Congress this year and continue showing up for the folks of Georgia's 4th Congressional District? ([link removed])
