Dear John,
We are living in scary and uncertain times. But we've said it before and we'll say it again -- the surge in gun sales in response to the COVID-19 pandemic is incredibly dangerous. Chip in now if you agree ([link removed])!
Here's a new statistic: Americans bought about two million guns in March 2020, making it the second-busiest month for gun sales on record.
Gun sales in America are skyrocketing as Americans worry about coronavirus. But extensive research has shown this truth: more guns don't make us safer ([link removed]). In fact, a gun in the home endangers everyone living there.
This surge in purchases will pose immediate and long-term safety threats if buyers aren't trained properly, new guns aren't stored safely, and background checks aren't completed. More guns escalate the risk of suicide, homicide, community violence, and unintentional injuries and deaths.
As the nation's oldest gun violence prevention organization, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence is in this fight for the long haul. But if you want to see this movement succeed and be able to fight for a future free from gun violence after this pandemic is over, our grassroots movement needs the resources to win.
Can we count on you to chip in $15, $25, $50, whatever you can afford right now to help fund our fight for a future free from gun violence: [link removed]?
Thank you for your support,
Josh Horwitz
