John,
A few months ago, I received a text from my sons’ university informing me they were in lockdown because there was an active shooter on the grounds.
Sadly, it wasn’t the first time I had received this text. The layers of emotions hit you all at once: panic, fear, and then the absolute sense of helplessness—that there is nothing you can do to protect them as you once could when they are thousands of miles away or even if they are just a mile away.
For too long, throughout our country, too many of our children have to experience school lockdowns, and too many of us have lost a loved one to gun violence.
As a mother, I refuse to accept that feeling of helplessness. As a leader, I refuse to accept inaction from policymakers when it comes to preventing gun violence. Our children deserve more from us.
That’s why I couldn’t be more honored to be recently named a Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate, making me the only gun sense candidate in the race for Washington’s 6th Congressional District.

In Congress, I will work to strengthen background checks and fund community violence prevention programs. As a mom, I know that we don’t have to choose between responsible gun ownership and keeping our communities safe.
With our critical end-of-month goal coming up on Tuesday, can I count on you to chip in $5 or whatever you can afford? Your support now will help me continue delivering for our community.
