John, This week, the Supreme Court announced that it will once again take up a case that could vastly impact the state of gun violence in America.
In August of 2022, the Biden-Harris administration announced a rule clarifying that ghost guns are subject to existing firearms regulations. But to no one’s surprise, the gun lobby almost immediately challenged the rule in court. Now, the case will be heard by the Supreme Court.
Ghost guns are unserialized, and therefore untraceable, guns that are sold in parts or kits for home assembly. These firearms are fully functioning guns, just as lethal as a traditional fully finished firearm.
From 2017-2021 there was a 1000% increase in ghost guns found at crime scenes. That’s because these guns can be bought and constructed by ANYONE, including prohibited purchasers, minors, domestic abusers, and gun traffickers.
The previous lack of regulation on ghost guns is exactly why these weapons have proliferated across the country, becoming a weapon of choice for use in crime. It’s also why the Biden-Harris administration’s rule is so important. Now, this life-saving action is under attack by the gun lobby and the fate of the rule will be decided by the Supreme Court.
Thankfully, the ghost gun rule will remain in effect while the Supreme Court hears the case, but we must do everything in our power to preserve this common-sense gun regulation. Brady is leading the charge against the gun lobby and their attempts to put gun industry profits above human lives, but we can’t do this work alone. Will you support our efforts to protect gun regulations including the Biden-Harris administration’s ghost gun rule?

The 2024 Brady Action Awards! |
On Thursday, Brady hosted the 2024 Brady Action Awards.
This award ceremony honors the efforts of individuals who have dedicated themselves to creating a nation without gun violence. The honorees — Christy Callahan and Jonathan Glickman, Anthony David Jr., Lisa Sherman and The Ad Council, and Donna Vobornik — have relentlessly pursued Brady's public health approach to change the laws, change the industry, and change the culture of firearms in America. They have each exemplified the spirit and legacy of our founders, Jim and Sarah Brady. Judd Apatow, director, comedian, and original signatory of the “Show Gun Safety” open letter, served as emcee for the night. We also heard inspiring words from Brady President Kris Brown, Board Chair Dr. Joe Sakran, Rep. Eric Swalwell, Team ENOUGH co-founder and survivor Aalayah Eastmond, and more. We were also joined by gun violence survivors, including Fred Guttenberg and the Song family, whose dedication to the movement and support are invaluable.
The Action Awards gave supporters a glimpse into Brady’s work to change the laws, change the industry, and change the culture to free America from gun violence. We thank our award winners, speakers, generous sponsors, host committee members, and grassroots supporters! Check out our website for a better look into the 2024 Brady Action Awards and details about future events.

Brady Condemns Tennessee Bill to Arm Teachers |
A year after the Covenant School Shooting, Tennessee lawmakers have passed new legislation that will allow teachers to carry concealed handguns at school. The bill has not yet been signed into law by Gov. Bill Lee, but already has many parents and educators outraged at the potential safety threat the legislation would pose. There is NO evidence that arming teachers is an effective solution to stop a school shooter or protect the safety of students. In fact, there is far more evidence that introducing a gun to a classroom puts everyone in harm’s way.
This bill does not require teachers to inform students, parents, or colleagues if they are armed. And it has NO safe storage requirements, meaning there is no plan for keeping firearms out of the hands of students. This is particularly concerning given that every day, eight children are injured or killed by unintentional shootings using guns that are not locked up or safely stored. The bill also contains an immunity clause, protecting schools from liability for an incident where the concealed firearm is improperly used.
This new bill endangers the lives of students and educators in schools across Tennessee. However, there is still a very small window of time to stop this bill from becoming law. If you live in Tennessee, please urge Gov. Bill Lee to VETO HB 1202. If you live outside of the state, please share with anyone you know living in Tennessee.
