California's Single-Payer Health Insurance Dream Remains a Fantasy

The state Assembly’s Health Committee advanced Assembly Bill 2200 ([link removed]) this week. The bill would ban private health insurance and force all state residents into “CalCare,” a government-run health plan. Nine Democrats voted aye, four Republicans voted no, and three Democrats abstained.

Subsidizing Strikes Is The California Legislature's Latest Anti-Growth Proposal

California’s legislature is currently considering SB 1116 ([link removed]) , a bill that would extend unemployment insurance (UI) benefits to striking workers. The unemployment insurance program was not designed to provide benefits to workers who voluntarily stop working – whether because they quit their jobs or because they voted to go on strike.
