Dear Neighbor,
Good news to report from the House: An omnibus transportation finance package that is headed to the floor for approval of the full body includes $1 million I authored for State Highway 65 in Blaine.
Per the language I authored, the funding will be used for intersection safety improvements along 65 from County Highway 10 to 99th Avenue Northeast. As you know, I have been working on funding Hwy. 65 and it took years to get the $190 million to eliminate all the lights from 99th Ave. to 117th Ave. intersections.?
I compromised with Rep. Erin Koegle to change the funding source of my amendment so it would be accepted into the transportation bill. The adoption of my amendment is an example of how, even in these deeply polarized times, we can? still do good bipartisan work.
In other good news, the Minneapolis City Council is delaying their anti-uber ordinance by two months. May 1?was the day Uber and Lyft were going to pull out permanently, but the Minneapolis City Council is delaying its ordinance change until July 1 so they can have time to fix the problem they created.
Now we have time to pass HF 5006, which I have co-authored with Rep. Elliott Engen, to provide a common-sense solution to prevent Uber and Lyft from being pushed out of town. It is terrible that one city council can pass an ordinance that takes away options from all Minnesotans.
Have a good weekend and I?m sure there will be much, much more to talk about from the Capitol soon.
Sincerely,
Nolan?
