This week, our nation celebrated Earth Day. I know the environment, climate change, and air quality are top of mind for many of you, so I wanted to take the time to talk about the work that I am doing in Congress to address these concerns. | Beginning this week, Americans can now apply to join the American Climate Corps through a newly launched website, ClimateCorps.gov, featuring nearly 2,000 positions located across 36 states, DC, and Puerto Rico. And a new update means that many American Climate Corps members will also have access to a streamlined pathway into federal service. | There was huge news this week from the Department of Transportation: high-speed rail is coming to Southern California. Officials broke ground on the 218-mile track connecting the Inland Empire to Las Vegas. This transit option is poised to eliminate 3 million car trips while boosting the economy and creating jobs. | Earth Day provided me with a chance to urge the EPA to approve California’s Advanced Clean Fleets regulation which would lower emissions from semi-trucks. The Inland Empire has become a logistics hub with thousands of trucks making their way through our community every day. This rule would require trucking operations to begin transitioning their fleets to zero emission vehicles, which will improve our air quality. As many Republicans in Congress continue to deny the very existence of climate change, the Biden Administration and House Democrats will continue to lead the way in ambitious climate action to protect the future of our planet for generations to come.
