Readings of the Day
Today’s first reading includes an image of each of us made by God as a polished arrow called to be God’s glory. Imagine if we all started the day with that image in our mind. Some of us might picture an arrow made of heavier material to cut through harsh wind or bad weather, others may envision a lighter arrow that is able to fly higher over many obstacles. A few of us may even picture an arrow with a bit of special flair. We are all soaring through the air imperfectly, but still following God’s call.
Right now, we are all figuring out how to exist in a new reality. Some parents are caring for their children alone while their spouse is off doing essential work to help others. To keep each other safe and healthy, other families are separated. Some are overwhelmed with responsibilities while others may be alone and feeling anxious or scared.
What if we took a step back and envisioned ourselves as soaring through the air as God calls us to do? Look to today’s responsorial psalm for guidance. It reminds us to trust in God from our youth. A reminder to look to God with childlike wonder for strength. At this moment, each of us is safely stored in God’s hands, but called to be a light to the nations. We will each answer this call uniquely and imperfectly, but together we are a perfect set, and will handle whatever may lie ahead.
