Legislative Update

Monday is looking to be a long evening on the House Floor. The agenda includes HF 4300 [ [link removed] ], the so called "safe storage bill" that greatly infringes on Minnesotan's second amendment rights within their own homes. This bill would require that all firearms be stored unloaded and in a locked storage case or with a trigger lock. In the unfortunate event that a firearm is needed for self-defense seconds can make all the difference and this law will add those seconds putting lives in danger.

Another gun bill the floor on Monday is HF 2609 [ [link removed] ], part of which could already be law if the majority party actually had an interest in good governance. This bill combines Rep. Scott's legislation [ [link removed] ] on illegal firearms transfers with poorly defined restrictions on triggers that have many 2nd amendment experts concerned with this legislation. This should have been a unanimous vote off the floor yet the majority continues to make every decision as divisive as possible to the detriment of our state.

On Thursday I was able to join the groundbreaking for a 50 million dollar investment in our bridges here in Austin. The project will replace these bridges along i90 and provide safe transit infrastructure for years to come.

In the Community

Good luck to Southland Robotics who are competing in the world robotics competition in Dallas Texas after their stellar performance at the state competition. This Saturday is Austin High School's Prom. Grand March starts at 7:00 pm in the Knowlton Auditorium. The prom is a memorable event where students come together to celebrate, dance, and create lasting memories. Have a safe and fun prom this weekend!

Takeback Day

This Saturday is National Drug Takeback Day. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a significant initiative aimed at addressing the drug overdose crisis in the United States. It addresses the health and safety of Americans by encouraging people to safely dispose of unneeded medications, thereby preventing medication misuse and the onset of opioid addiction. The event also highlights resources for proper medication disposal, substance use disorder treatment, and education on the drug overdose epidemic.
