Dear John,
I had a great week here in the South Metro! It was great to connect with so many of you, and I’m grateful to everyone who took the time to meet with me, give me a tour or attend my Town Hall.
Monday was a big day in Lakeville! I joined Mayor Luke Hellier, Police Chief Brad Paulson and Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith to announce $800,000 in federal funding for Lakeville’s FiRST Center – a state-of-the-art training facility for the region’s law enforcement community.
Every single member of Minnesota’s public safety community takes on a tremendous risk each day they put on their uniform – and they do it all for the sake of keeping our communities safe. As public officials, we have a responsibility to provide every member of the law enforcement community with the training, resources and protections they need to do their jobs safely.
I worked closely with Mayor Hellier and Chief Paulson for over a year to secure the funding needed to build this training facility for Lakeville and Dakota County law enforcement.
The FiRST Center will include training areas, classrooms and meeting spaces, resources for tactical training – and its construction will create jobs and spur economic growth.
I’m pleased we were able to bring this funding home and are one step closer to building the state-of-the-art training facility that Minnesota law enforcement deserves.
Here’s what else I was up to this week:
Fighting against postal service rate increases
A few weeks ago, USPS announced they would be raising stamp prices for the fourth time in 18 months. That’s completely unacceptable to me. You should not have to pay more for poor service.
Yesterday, I literally mailed a letter to USPS leadership, urging them to stop raising prices for Minnesotans and take immediate action on the many challenges facing postal carriers and Minnesotans.
Working to expand economic growth in the South Metro
I was in Shakopee on Thursday to recognize the $1 million we secured for the Regional Innovation Hub, a space to support local businesses and foster entrepreneurship.
Securing these federal funds took collaboration from all levels of government. I’ll keep working to bring federal tax dollars home.
Hosting my 64th town hall
A big thank you to everyone who tuned into my April Town Hall!
It was great to be joined by Bree Maki from the Minnesota Office of Broadband Development for a discussion about how we can keep working to ensure every Minnesotan can access affordable internet service.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
I want to introduce you to Marie: one of MN02’s finest! Marie is a teacher at Burnsville High School – and a finalist for this year’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year Award.
I’m so proud of Marie and grateful for all that she does to support her students! Congratulations, Marie!
That wraps up this week’s update. I’m back in Washington next week for votes – and I’ll report back!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
