Catch Up on Earth Day Events!
|
Earth Day has come and gone, but you can still check out our April virtual events!
On April 16th, Population Connection President and CEO John Seager gave a presentation titled Earth Day Insights: Population Resilience in the Face of Climate Challenges. In it, John discussed the importance of removing barriers to family planning for women and girls worldwide—both as a human rights imperative and as an essential tool in the fight against climate change.
Dr. Céline Delacroix, an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa's School of Health Sciences and Director of the FP/Earth project with the Population Institute, spoke with Population Connection members and supporters on Earth Day, April 22nd. Dr. Delacroix presented the findings from a 2023 journal article she wrote with Dr. Nkechi S. Owoo, a Ghanaian Health and Demographic Economist, that explores the perspectives of sub-Saharan African policymakers, researchers, and activists on the linkages between reproductive rights, population dynamics, and environmental sustainability.

Global Partner Spotlight: Lemur Love |
Learn more about one of our wonderful Global Partners, Madagascar-based conservation organization Lemur Love! A US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Lemur Love works to preserve Madagascar’s biodiversity by investing in Malagasy people. Their mission is to “Protect lemurs. Empower women. Further science.” Their conservation agenda is both animal-centric and human-focused, working from the premise that human well-being and sustainable biodiversity are strongly linked. Accordingly, Lemur Love's programs focus on both protecting and studying wild lemurs in their native habitat, increasing the financial security of families living near lemurs by empowering women, training the next generation of Malagasy scientists, and more.
