Dear John,
April 6, 2020 at 8 p.m.
It’s been an intense day to say the least. Here’s the most recent information we have heading into tomorrow’s Spring Election and Presidential Primary.
The conservative majority on the Wisconsin State Supreme Court ruled this afternoon that the April 7 election will take place, disregarding the gravest public health crisis in a generation, and placing those who simply want to cast a vote in the crosshairs of the COVID-19 virus.
Shortly after that ruling, a separate decision was made by the U.S. Supreme Court that only absentee ballots postmarked or dropped off by April 7 will be valid.
That means, if you requested an absentee ballot and have not yet returned it, you must return it by mail or at a drop-off location or clerk’s office tomorrow.
We’re keeping our election page updated here. You can continue to check it, but if you need information specific to your municipality, we urge you to check its website, email your clerk, or follow your municipality on Twitter.
Over the past week, it’s become increasingly clear that the threat to Wisconsin’s democracy posed by legislative leaders Speaker Robin Vos and Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has become so severe that they’re willing to, quite literally, prioritize politics over our lives and the lives of those we love.
We’re working nonstop to make sure your vote is cast and counted safely, and as an organization we are committed to holding accountable the elected representatives who are increasing the likelihood that voters in Wisconsin become infected by the COVID-19 virus.
The best thing you can do right now is get your absentee ballots turned in or postmarked by end of day April 7.
Thank you,
Kerry Schumann
