In addition to Wisconsin's Supreme Court overturning the governor's order to postpone tomorrow's election until June, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled moments ago that Wisconsin cannot accept absentee ballots postmarked after Tuesday. This is another crushing body blow to public health, voter participation in our democracy and basic common sense.

This decision was rendered despite the fact that large numbers of voters who have requested absentee ballots still have not received them and yet are expected to return them tomorrow.

We can't leave any stone unturned in responding to this madness. Thank you to everyone who responded to my earlier message and tried contacting Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Andrea Palm to urge her to intervene as her counterpart in Ohio did. Those calling Palm's office found her voice mailbox to be full. You also can try emailing [email protected] or calling (608) 266-1865.

Here's what state law says about the Department of Health Services authority:

Section 252.02 Powers and duties of department.

(3) The department may close schools and forbid public gatherings in schools, churches, and other places to control outbreaks and epidemics.
