April is National Cancer Prevention Month, and I’m proud to be legislation named in honor of my late mother, Nancy Gardner Sewell, to create a pathway for Medicare to cover essential cancer screenings.

Our legislation aims to open the door to a new era of detecting and treating cancer while ensuring our most vulnerable citizens are not left behind.

Early detection saves lives, allowing for prompt intervention and treatment and significantly improving the outcome for patients. The impact of late-stage cancer diagnoses are particularly magnified in communities of color and those living in rural America.
