Some of this year’s most important elections aren’t getting nearly enough attention.

State supreme court races play a critical role in the redistricting process. The courts have the power to review and, if necessary, overturn unfair or unconstitutional maps, not to mention rule on other critical issues. (Remember how Arizona’s bringing back an abortion ban from 1864? That’s because of a state supreme court ruling.)

Having a fair-minded court is vital to upholding democratic principles and protecting our freedoms.

With so much at stake, we can’t afford NOT to get involved. We’ve identified a handful of key state supreme court races — in Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas — as some of our TOP electoral priorities for 2024.

But the amount of money we’re able to invest in critical races is directly tied to the amount of money we raise from emails like this one. Please make a donation of $30 or whatever you can to help elect candidates who will champion fair maps and defend our freedoms. [[link removed]]

By investing in state supreme court races, we can build a firewall against Republican gerrymandering. Here are two quick examples of how state supreme courts can make or break the redistricting process:

In Wisconsin , after over a decade of voting under egregiously gerrymandered maps, we achieved a pro-democracy majority on the state supreme court, which then issued a decision that led to the legislature enacting the fairest maps in a generation.

But in North Carolina last year, ideologues on that state’s supreme court enabled and emboldened a highly partisan legislature to draw new maps with some of the worst gerrymandering in the country.

Both states are highly competitive and evenly politically divided — but one of them has a supreme court putting its thumb on the scale to give Republicans an unfair advantage.

Here’s the thing, though: North Carolina has a supreme court seat up for grabs this fall. It’s a must-win if we want to secure fair maps and fair representation for this critical battleground state. And it’s one of our top electoral priorities for 2024.

Will you pitch in a contribution of any amount to help win critical elections that can ensure fair maps and a more representative democracy? [[link removed]]
