I know there is a lot going on in our nation and across the globe right now, but I wanted to reach out to speak to you about a very important issue: the 2020 Census.

The Census, which only happens once every ten years, counts every living person in the United States and its five territories. These numbers are used to allocate federal resources and determine how many representatives each state and territory has in the United States Congress.

This is a once in a decade opportunity to create a government that is representative of all people living in this country. But right now, just two out of every five people in California's second congressional district have completed the Census.

It is particularly important we all complete our 2020 Census questionnaire and be counted. As of now, California is poised to lose a seat in Congress.

We can’t count on door-to-door efforts to collect Census responses: the Census Bureau has announced that all field operations for the 2020 Census will be suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

That makes it even more important that you complete the Census questionnaire online, via telephone, or via mail. Visit the 2020 Census website to learn more about completing your questionnaire. 2020census.gov/
