Lila here, writing from 350 Action today, the political arm of 350. I know elections are on the mind for a lot of us these days and 350.org is going to offer a few different ways for you to get involved. First up are opportunities to travel to key swing states and districts where climate champions are running. 350 Action is partnering with Seed the Vote to help get volunteers and 350 Local Group leaders on the road to critical elections.
If you are interested in this election or others coming up this summer to defend members of the squad like Cory Bush, sign up on the website here and email me so that I can connect you to the right person asap. We will follow up with more opportunities from Seed the Vote and other partners working on the election so stay posted.
In solidarity,
Lila Kohrman-Glaser, 350 Network Manager
Don't let a right-wing megadonor change WA's climate laws.
Initiative 2117 will be on the ballot this fall to overturn our state's landmark law to reduce climate pollution and strip away much needed investments to fight the climate crisis - all thanks to a man the Seattle Times referred to as "Tim Eyman with a gigantic bank account." Join Sierra Club WA and the No on 2117 campaign as we fight one man's attempt to buy an election. Pledge to vote NO on 21117 today.
We’re writing today to ask if you’ll join us in pledging to vote NO on Initiative 2117 — and to stand with us in protecting our air and water, forests and farmland, and jobs and our transportation system here in the Evergreen State.
Here’s why: A right-wing megadonor is single-handedly trying to overturn our state's landmark law to reduce climate pollution. He’s put in $6 million of his own money to get I-2117 and other dangerous initiatives on the ballot this November. No wonder The Seattle Times called him “Tim Eyman with a gigantic bank account.”
If I-2117 passes this November, it will mean that instead of a fee on pollution being paid by polluters, it would shift the financial burden onto communities, workers, and families. It would strip away investments in community priorities across the state — from low cost transit service to wildfire prevention programs and more.
E&E News says that aside from the presidential race, “this referendum could be the year’s most important climate election.”
Washingtonians from across the state are coming together to fight back, reject this dangerous initiative, and pledge to vote no on 2117. The No on 2117 campaign — a growing, unprecedented statewide coalition of business and environmental leaders, Tribal nations, labor unions and community organizations dedicated to protecting our air and water — just launched. And they are ready for a fight.
From our friends at the Chiapas Education Project:
On May 19th, we are holding a magical event to celebrate this work, and bring together the cultures of the Indigenous people of the Northwest with the cultures of Mexico. The event will feature performances of Aztec and Oaxacan traditional dance, drumming, singing and storytelling from our region. The evening will also include raffle/auction items, and a screening of the short documentary highlighting the work we have done and the lives we have touched in Chiapas so far. The delicious dinner will be served by Natoncks Metsuof the Nipmuc Nation. Funds raised from this event will be used for a third trip to Chiapas this coming July. Our prayer is to provide a local high school with computers and access to the internet. But we can’t do it without your help.
This spring and summer 350 Tacoma is hosting a series of events that combine caring for qʷiqʷəlut (“little marsh”), a 1.5 acre salt marsh that we steward, with educational presentations by local organizations and experts. Speakers will cover a wide range of water-related topics. Lunch will be served with the presentation. Followed by carpools over to qʷiqʷəlut (“little marsh”) for a tour, trash pick up & plant watering.
Patricia Gonzalez & Dakota Case, members of The Water Warrior Council will open the series by sharing the history and importance of the Puyallup Tribe’s ancestral tideflats, which includes qʷiqʷəlut and what is known today as the Port of Tacoma. We will also discuss ways we can advocate to protect and restore these sacred waters.
Chip in $1 or More to Protect Washington’s Climate Progress
A right-wing megadonor is single-handedly trying to reshape Washington state's laws and overturn the state's landmark climate law.
Real Washingtonians are organizing a campaign to reject this toxic ballot measure and vote NO on 2117. E&E News says that aside from the presidential race, “this referendum could be the year’s most important climate election.”
In contrast to one man spending $6 million to try and buy an election, we’re counting on grassroots supporters like you. Chip in just $1 or more to join the movement and defend our progress.
