FULFILLMENT FUND ANNOUNCES EXPANDED CAREER WEBINARS
Dear John,
We hope you are doing well and staying healthy during these trying times. COVID-19 has been an unprecedented challenge for all of us: our public health is in crisis, jobs are in jeopardy, and education has been interrupted. Our daily lives have been upended.
Though all of us are affected by this pandemic, economically-vulnerable communities are disproportionately impacted – including our students and their families. Already confronted with significant obstacles to accessing and completing college (only 11% of students from low-income communities earn their bachelor’s degrees within six years, compared with 58% of their high-income peers), COVID-19 is multiplying the hurdles our students face.
From recent conversations with our college students, we know that many are choosing to move back home so that they can use their refunded student housing payments to help their families weather the times. Many have also increased their hours at current or new jobs to help supplement the loss of family income. This puts at risk students’ chances of completing college. Those with college degrees earn $1 million more over the course of their lifetime than those who only have high school diplomas – but confronted with the need to help their families now, many students are making the difficult decision to risk their steady progress toward finishing college in order to help their families survive.
That’s where the Fulfillment Fund steps in. Technology is enabling us to continue serving our students, who need us now more than ever. One of the ways we are doing this is by offering an expanded array of graduate school and career-readiness webinars, aimed at helping our college students stay motivated to finish by showing them all the possibilities for fruitful careers after getting their degrees.
