We have an exciting update, climate champion!

The Biden Administration just issued new Department of Energy rules to streamline federal permitting of new transmission lines and upgrade existing transmission lines.

While these new rules will streamline numerous transmission projects that currently face delays, more must be done to solve the US’s aging transmission infrastructure problem, which has been a bottleneck for clean energy deployment. We need comprehensive legislation from Congress to unlock the over 2,000 gigawatts of potential clean energy that has been waiting to connect to the power grid.

Expanding and modernizing our transmission networks means increasing access to clean energy that we already have and to the clean energy projects that are waiting to connect to the grid. It will help tackle the climate crisis by meeting demand with clean energy projects while ensuring the reliability of the grid and reducing consumers' bills. Multiple bills have been put on the table in Congress to do exactly that – yet none have passed.

With these new rules, we have momentum on our side. We must keep the pressure on to make sure Congress hears loud and clear: We want more clean energy now! [[link removed]]

Clean energies like wind and solar are quickly becoming the least expensive sources of energy and we need to make sure as many people as possible get access to these clean, abundant energy sources, especially for marginalized communities who bear the brunt of environmental injustices.
