# **Candidate Endorsements**
Utah is heading into a pivotal election cycle with every state house seat, half of the senate seats, and some key county council and school board races up for grabs.
The O₂ Utah team has already started our rigorous endorsement process and publicly endorsed our first batch of candidates!
Before making an endorsement, our staff interviews each candidate to learn more about their campaign plan, environmental policy goals, and what makes them the best fit as a climate champion. We then decide as a team who to endorse and strategize on how to best support their campaign.

O₂ Utah is proud to endorse **Zach Robinson** (Salt Lake County Council, D6), **Ross Romero** (Salt Lake County Council, D4), **Patrick Belmont** (House District 3), **Jessica Wignall** (House District 39), **Tyler Clancy **(House District 60), **Andrew Stoddard** (House District 40), **Joel Briscoe** (House District 24), **Jeff Howell** (House District 23), **Alisa Van Langeveld** (Senate District 8), **Rosemary Lesser** (House District 10), and **Turner Bitton **(Salt Lake City School Board, D2).
We also endorsed Deondra Brown (Salt Lake County Council At-Large), who, unfortunately, did not make it through convention. We wish Deondra the best!
Our team will continue to conduct interviews and endorse more candidates in the coming weeks! Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities to help support these great candidates.

----------# **Park Clean Up with Zach Robinson**
Join O₂ Utah and Zach Robinson, candidate for the Salt Lake County Council (District 6), in sprucing up **Dimple Dell Park** while discovering more about his campaign on **Saturday, April 27, at 8:30 a.m.**
Zach has served admirably on the Sandy City Council, prioritizing open spaces, clean air, and common-sense transportation solutions in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

# **In The News**
Unfortunately, Rocky Mountain Power has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.
In its recently released Integrated Resource Plan, the power company has **walked back its plans to phase out coal plants and now calls for them to remain open until at least 2042.**
“Via Fox13:
_Environmental groups were frustrated by the updated plan on Tuesday. The environmental group O₂ Utah, accused Rocky Mountain Power of putting "profits over people."_
_"Our legislature and power companies know the damage of fossil fuels, specifically coal, yet they willingly pollute our airshed and damage the health of Utahns. Although PacifiCorp has the nerve to display solar and wind on their IRP cover, it's blatant lip service and greenwashing as they double down on dirty fossil fuels and walk back their environmental commitments," the group said._
_"We're excited about existing programs like the Community Renewable Energy Program to achieve net-100% renewable energy, and we'll continue to pressure lawmakers and PacifiCorp to prioritize our air quality and health over their bottom line."_“ —

O₂ Utah will continue to pursue programs like the Community Renewable Energy Program (CREP) to bring **net-100% renewable energy to residents and businesses by 2030.**
Speaking of CREP, Rocky Mountain Power continues to move the goalposts here as well as it backtracks on its renewable energy purchases.
However, O₂ Utah remains committed to working with stakeholders and communities to achieve clean energy through CREP — **the biggest opportunity in Utah to reduce our carbon footprint.**
This past legislative session, a bill passed that opened the door for more communities to join the program, and **O₂ Utah is identifying and inviting at least four new communities.**
The more communities we can add to CREP, the more significant impact we can have on Utah's electricity pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
