John, April is Fair Housing Month, commemorating the anniversary of the passing of the Fair Housing Act, prohibiting discrimination in housing transactions.
Housing has been such an important issue for me, and in line with this year's theme – The "Act" in Action – I wanted to tell you more about the work I've done on this issue.
Before I give you the details, I'm running a people-powered campaign to continue being a strong voice for what matters to our community in Congress. Will you support me with a donation of any amount today?

Like I said, this issue is a personal one for me. I didn't live in a big fancy house growing up – when my parents came here from Guatemala, we lived in subsidized housing above our church.
As a kid, I volunteered with my mother at our local homeless shelter. Before I was 18, I was the "mail lady" helping folks suffering from homelessness apply for jobs and benefits. And at just 21, I became the Executive Director for a non-profit homeless services agency that helped people across our community.
Now, ten years, two terms in the Illinois House, and a year in Congress later, our housing issues are still at the top of my priority list.
That's why I'm so proud to have introduced the Tenants' Right to Organize Act in the House, a bill that protects and empowers residents to fight back against discrimination and unfair rent hikes.
John, this has been a life-long fight of mine, and while I'm ready to continue working, my ability to represent us in Congress is being threatened by a GOP opponent ready to bring MAGA extremism into our community. Will you help me keep my seat with a donation today?
