FIRST: Kari Lake and the anti-abortion extremists of the GOP worked hard to enact a pre-statehood law that calls for a near-total ban on abortion. The 1864 statute has NO exceptions for rape or incest and criminalizes patients and providers seeking care.

THEN: Republicans like Kari Lake and Juan Ciscomani tried WALKING BACK their words, claiming now that the ban is too extreme.
