Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan has failed to deliver in his 8 years in charge of our city and the Conservatives have given up on London by choosing a candidate that does not share our values. It isn’t much of a choice.
If you’re looking for a real liberal challenger to the Mayor, then tune in and watch Lib Dem candidate Rob Blackie confront the Mayor on his record tonight at 8pm on BBC one.
I was with him last night when he recorded the show. Throughout the debate, Rob pulled no punches. He consistently called the Mayor out for his failings on housing, transport and his catastrophic handling of the Met Police.
In his summary speech, Rob made the most important point when he held up a letter from the Conservatives admitting that their candidate can’t win - but stressed that doesn’t mean Sadiq Khan deserves a clear run either.
He’s right. In London, the Conservatives are in freefall. But Londoners don’t have to settle for Khan’s poor record. Instead, they can send the Mayor a message by voting for Lib Dem candidate Rob Blackie.
Rob is a lifelong Londoner and I know his clear focus on fixing the Met Police is in line with London’s priorities.
So watch him tonight on BBC One at 8pm and hear what he had to say.
