Friend,
In Jonglei state, South Sudan, two-year-old Nya Thor was transported by an ambulance boat in critical condition, suffering from severe malaria.
Her mother, Nya Sibet Mar, said that it was her second time being infected with the disease. Since heavy floods began impacting the region in 2019, more and more people have been getting sick from malaria—one of the leading causes of death in the country. Despite malaria being preventable and treatable, it kills nearly half a million people worldwide every year—70 percent of whom are children under five years old.
In South Sudan, where many villages are completely surrounded by floodwater, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are using ambulance boats to access patients who need care.
Friend, you can ensure that MSF has the resources required to keep reaching children like Nya, while we continue to respond to other emergencies across the globe. Make your first gift to MSF now >> |
