Even though we’re only four months into 2024, we’ve already made quite an impact.
We’ve made major progress to stop the Article V plot to gut our constitutional rights.
Members like you donated, sent letters, and made calls to deal some catastrophic blows against the far-right forces pushing an Article V Convention to rewrite our Constitution. Thanks to your work, this year we’ve stopped Article V bills in Idaho, Maine, and Wyoming, and even rescinded a call on the books for New York!
We recruited, trained, and placed Election Protection Volunteers in our highest-risk primary voting locations – and our volunteers have already helped thousands of voters cast their ballots.
John, at this point it’s probably no surprise to you that our Election Protection program runs all year long – not just in November of an election year. Already this year, we’ve placed volunteers in states across the country to support voters as they navigate new attempts to suppress their vote. And, we’re ramping up our program as I write you to prepare for the general election.
We’re closer than ever to fixing our broken Electoral College.
Members like you mobilized to get National Popular Vote passed in Maine just last week! That comes after a major win bringing Minnesota in last year – and now we’re only 61 electoral votes worth of states away from ensuring no one wins the presidency without the majority of Americans support – like George W. Bush did in 2000 and Donald Trump did in 2016.
John, just 10 years ago, that gap was 134 votes!
It’s only April, and I know we have many more wins in our future. But these successes don’t come without challenges.
We’re still fighting 54 active Article V bills in states across the country – and we can’t afford to let a single one pass.
We’re laser-focused on passing NPV in Michigan this year – because it’s unlikely it’ll pass next year, and we need Michigan on board if we hope to reform our Electoral College.
And we’re working around the clock to stop anti-voter bills in states across the country, like in Arizona where extremists are pushing bills aimed at getting rid of vote centers, abolishing the right of voters to recall judges, and banning vote by mail for almost everyone.
