Friends,
Last week marked 17 years since a gunman opened fire at Virginia Tech. I remember April 16, 2007 like it was yesterday — I was Governor of Virginia, and it was the worst day of my life. We lost 32 innocent lives in what was then the worst mass shooting in our country’s history. Dozens more were injured.
Earlier this week marked 25 years since 12 students and a teacher were killed in a senseless mass shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado.
Next month will mark 2 years since a shooter killed 19 children and 2 teachers at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.
This list could go on, and it haunts me — as I know it haunts our entire nation.
We must put an end to this epidemic.
Last week, Senator Mark Warner and I re-introduced our Virginia Plan to Reduce Gun Violence Act .

This bill would save lives by:

Limiting
stockpiling
of
weapons
*
Requiring
reporting
of
lost
or
stolen
firearms
*
Preventing
firearm
access
to
minors
*
Closing
the
“boyfriend
loophole”
*
…and
so
much
more.
This cannot wait any longer.
So many “worst mass shootings” have happened since that awful day in April 2007, but the same forces keep blocking meaningful action to prevent them. And every single day we let pass without taking action, we are jeopardizing the lives of children and adults throughout our country.
