Congressman Joaquin Castro has represented his hometown of San Antonio in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2013. A proud second generation Mexican American and product of San Antonio’s public schools, he first served his community as a lawyer before winning a seat in the Texas Legislature at just 28 years old. Since then, he has committed himself to tirelessly advocating for policies that strengthen our democracy, support immigrant and working-class families, and create a more equitable future for us all. Having experienced America’s promise firsthand, he wants to help build out what he calls the Infrastructure of Opportunity—the great public schools and universities, sound health care system, and good-paying jobs that enable all Americans to pursue their dreams.
