Dear Ward 8 Residents,

Last week, my office responded to Hope Village, the halfway house in Ward 8, after there was an outcry from residents about the facility's conditions. Residents reported concerns about the lack of food and hygiene supplies. I spoke with the owners of Hope Village, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton and a representative from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) about the concerns made by residents at the facility.

Today, Congresswoman Holmes Norton sent a letter to the Director of the BOP, Michael Carvajal, again asking BOP to investigate conditions at Hope Village following the reported death of a second inmate in three days.

I call for the immediate release of all eligible residents from Hope Village so they may safely shelter in place with their families.

My office will continue to report daily to District residents. Please continue to seek information from the DC Health's website coronavirus.dc.gov ([link removed]) .

We will get through this together.

Regards,

Trayon White, Sr.
Councilmember, Ward 8
