Field Discussion: Responding to Clients’ Emergency Needs
During our Listening Session for Service Providers last month, we heard from some of you about the challenges you’re facing in your organizations regarding pivoting and restructuring your programs. The current pandemic is demonstrating something savings practitioners know well: it is incredibly difficult to withstand financial crises without emergency savings or other assets to fall back on.
We know our clients are actively saving; however, low-income earners face several systemic barriers that hinder them from sustaining and growing savings over time. Before the current economic crisis, families were forced to make sacrifices in emergencies to ameliorate their immediate needs and expenses, shortchanging their long-term goals to gain back stability. Unfortunately, the current crisis will greatly exacerbate the vulnerability of low- to-moderate income clients towards financial instability.
During this webinar, we want to discuss how practitioners are supporting the needs of their clients with immediate expenses, and how savings programs have shifted to provide emergency needs. We want to hear from you about how you are shifting your work, about how you’re reaching clients in rural areas, and about the strategies you are developing to engage clients virtually. We hope you will join us in this conversation as we discuss how we’ll continue to move our work forward, how we’ll aid our clients in their savings journey, and how we’ll help each other learn from this experience.
