The Green Party of the United States <[link removed]> denounced a bipartisan congressional bill package that prioritizes military funding over urgent climate action and peace.

H.R. 8034, 8035. and 8036, which were passed by the House on April 20 and the Senate last night, provide $26 billion for Israel, $61 billion for Ukraine, and $8 billion for U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific region, primarily for military weapons and support.

“These bills are a stark reminder of the misplaced priorities of our political leaders in both parties. We can't address global warming while perpetuating endless wars and fueling the military-industrial complex," said Margaret Elisabeth, Co-chair, Green Party of the United States. “These bills take away funding that could be used to address the climate crisis, while funding weapons that will contribute to climate change and further escalate the arms race.”

“We recognize the devastating impact of war on human lives, the environment, and the economy,” said Rachel Braaten, Co-chair, National EcoAction Committee <[link removed]>. “H.R. 8034 provides continued military support to Israel for the deliberate killing and displacement of citizens in Gaza while funding humanitarian assistance that can’t possibly be delivered. Besides homes and civil infrastructure, trees, farms and greenhouses in Gaza have been destroyed and soil and groundwater contaminated by heavy artillery and contaminants from building debris, rendering the home of millions of citizens unlivable.”

“The Green Party prioritizes diplomacy, international cooperation, and sustainable development over military aggression and conflict," said Mark Dunlea, National Eco-Action Committee Member. “We offer a comprehensive solution to the climate crisis, including an eco-socialist Green New Dea <[link removed]>l, a halt to fossil fuel infrastructure, and a commitment to climate justice and equity. We can't afford to wait any longer – the future of our planet depends on it.”
