Team,
Today, the Supreme Court heard arguments on whether or not Idaho’s near-total abortion ban conflicts with a federal law that ensures certain standards for emergency medical care for pregnant women.
The Biden administration filed a lawsuit saying that the Idaho state ban restricts life-saving treatment for women suffering complications during pregnancy. During the arguments today, it appeared that the justices were split along ideological lines, with conservative justices skeptical of the Biden lawsuit.
This case will reach far past Idaho. There are a dozen or more other states with similar abortion bans where emergency medical care for pregnant women could be at risk depending on the Court’s decision.
We’re lucky that here in Ohio, voters enshrined abortion rights in our constitution. But this case serves as a reminder that after the overturning of Roe v. Wade , we can’t trust the U.S. Supreme Court to protect reproductive healthcare in any shape or form. We need the Ohio Supreme Court to serve as our line of defense.
That’s why we’re asking: Can you donate $5, $10, or anything you can afford to our judicial fund so we can elect staunch defenders of reproductive rights to our Ohio Supreme Court and secure a pro-chocie, Democratic majority? [link removed]
Thank you,
Liz Walters
Ohio is the only state in the country that can flip its Supreme Court this year. Can Ohio Democrats count on you to chip in $5, $10, or whatever you can to help fuel our fight to Build the Bench and flip the Court? →[link removed]
