I want to get personal for a moment. 

Like many, my partner Paolo and I came of age at a time when being gay was still considered a crime in many states.

In the wake of 9/11 at 17 years old, I had a deep sense of duty to serve the country, but policies like “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” discouraged me from joining the military. 

Thanks to the brave LGBTQ+ Americans who came before me and had the courage to come out, I eventually got the chance to work openly in law enforcement and counterterrorism.

Things have changed a lot for the better since then, but despite all the progress that’s been made, we’re seeing a rise in anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment -- from book bans, anti-trans legislation, and boycotts against businesses that prioritize equality. 

This has all been perpetuated by folks like my opponent Ken Calvert, and the entire MAGA caucus. Across his corruption-ridden and hateful 30+ year career Calvert has: 

• Publicly outed a former Democratic opponent.
• Voted NO on recognizing gay marriage nationally.
• Voted to elect Mike Johnson as Speaker, one of Congress’ biggest homophobes. 

We can send a clear message that rejects the GOP’s hateful agenda by turning the House blue this November. That starts by flipping CA-41.
