Dear Resource Generation Community,

What does home mean to you? A place of respite, joy, grief, restoration, community. It’s the one place where you should feel safe and secure. For many, the right to a home has been robbed by the commodification of land and housing as an asset to be bought and sold, and we’re trying to do something about it!

Resource Generation is teaming up with the Center for Popular Democracy in a shared fight to house EVERYONE because we believe housing is not a privilege, but a right. Owning a home is the keystone to building wealth in the US. Increasingly, only people who already HAVE money have a chance at home ownership (78% of Gen Z homeowners have a cash gift from a family member). Those able to purchase starter homes are continuously out-bid by large corporations with all cash offers to seize all of the starter family homes on the market. The system is broken, and we’ve had enough—housing and land need to be decommodified so everyone is guaranteed a safe place to live. To get there, we’ll need to join movements to win many housing fights and restructure the economy, but one thing is for sure: we need more power. We need more young people with access to wealth to skill up and leverage our class positions on the side of housing justice!

How do we get there? An Organizing Drive to build our base and a Housing Campaign to win system change. Here are the next steps:

Join our All Member Call May 2nd, 7-9 PM ET / 4-6 PT to meet our partners at Center for Popular Democracy. We’ll be talking housing goals, strategy, how we can strengthen our cross- class power. Join members from across the country to dream and scheme on how to win on housing.
If you’re already involved in RG and are ready to step further into leadership, sign up for our 6-week Campaigns Training May 9th - June 13th on Thursdays from 7-9 PM ET / 4-6 PM PT. New organizers can learn the ins and outs of campaign organizing with no previous experience required! We’re serious about ending wealth hoarding in our generation, and we know that building cross-class campaigns and GROWING our base of young people with access to wealth who are ready to take action is the way to do that. That is why we’re launching an Organizing Drive along with this campaign to bring in new members and train new leadership to rise to the invitation from our working class-led partners.
