Waterkeeper Alliance Celebrates First-Ever Limits on PFAS in Drinking Water, and Calls on Biden to Address All Contamination

The Environmental Protection Agency finalized a new rule for regulating PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in drinking water. The new rule encompasses six types of these toxic compounds, including PFOA and PFOS, in drinking water under the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Waterkeeper Alliance Applauds New EPA Rule to Hold Major Polluters Accountable For PFAS Contamination

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a groundbreaking new rule to designate two per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) – as hazardous substances under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). Following decades of inaction, big industry polluters and federal facilities will now be accountable for releasing dangerous PFAS into our environment and contributing to a growing public health crisis.

Earth Day Declaration: Groups Urge Bold Action to Strengthen the Global Plastics Treaty

In honor of Earth Day, a diverse group of 54 organizations from 24 countries across North and South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia joined forces to submit a declaration ahead of international negotiations on a global treaty to end plastic pollution.

Final Biden Oil, Gas Rule Offers Fiscal Reforms, Nothing on Climate

The Bureau of Land Management’s newly released final oil and gas leasing rule offers decades-overdue fiscal reforms, but falls short of managing climate impacts. Waterkeeper Alliance calls for the Biden administration to align climate goals with regulatory actions, including a realistic plan to phase out leasing of public lands to help ensure clean and safe water will be available for present and future generations.
