We need to talk about what the hell is happening in Tennessee right now. This is the current state of guns in our schools, John.

Just over a year after a school shooting in Nashville that killed three 9-year-olds and three school staff, a preschool teacher across town brought guns to school and threatened to use them on students and colleagues.

We wish we didn’t have to say the following, but GUNS HAVE NO PLACE IN OUR SCHOOLS!

The argument that to curb school shootings, we need more guns on campus is regressive, deadly, and simply untrue. But Tennessee Republicans seem to disagree. Yesterday, they passed a bill that would allow teachers to carry concealed handguns on public school grounds and bar parents and other teachers from knowing who was armed. Now it’s on its way to Republican Gov. Bill Lee’s desk. Experts are saying he’s likely to sign it into law. We can’t let this happen, John.

How can we trust that the teachers allowed to carry guns in school aren’t going to react like that preschool teacher did? How can we know students won’t get access to a gun and accidentally harm themselves or other kids? We can’t.

Tell your legislators that arming teachers and having more guns on campus is a horrible idea that will cost more lives than it will save.
