This week, we launched a new video that highlights the little-known but highly-consequential movement by far-right groups to radically rewrite the Constitution. | |
Groups on the far right – bankrolled by Big Oil, Koch Industries, and right-wing mega-donors — want to rewrite the Constitution in order to take America back 100 years to a time that was largely devoid of federal oversight. The right-wing bill mill the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) has provided model text for state lawmakers to bring back to their statehouses for a resolution demanding the first Constitutional convention since 1787. All of our rights and a century of progress in making America a more just society is at stake — from cleaning up the environment and protecting workers’ rights to providing social security and affordable health insurance. The endgame is to return our country to its pre-Constitution roots under the Articles of Confederation, with a weak central government and sovereign states.
