May is an important moment for us at the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Each year, Mental Health Awareness Month offers our community the chance to shed light on the topic of suicide. Since last May, our [#TalkAwayTheDark campaign]([link removed]) has reached people across the country to help them spot the warning signs for suicide, start honest and caring conversations with those who may be struggling, and connect them to life-saving support.
This year, AFSP is expanding our #TalkAwayTheDark campaign –– which featured a [national PSA short film]([link removed]) on how to spot the warning signs –– to reach even more people. Our new, advanced messaging will provide guidance on how to connect someone to help when they feel hesitant to receive support. In our updated resources, you can expect to find in-depth information from AFSP's suicide prevention experts, as well as tangible tools to help you address real-life moments.
In the coming weeks, stay tuned for more email updates and social posts across our AFSP channels about our new #TalkAwayTheDark campaign launch. We'll be releasing a brand-new #RealConvo guide in both English and Spanish, shareable social graphics, exciting collaborations with popular visual artists, new Seize the Awkward videos, and multiple virtual events throughout May –– to name just a few things we've put together for you.
This May and beyond, we're excited to help you continue spreading the word about suicide prevention and #TalkAwayTheDark.
