Every day, more plastic flows into our environment, posing a dire threat to wildlife and contaminating our natural habitats and communities. Shockingly, plastic production has doubled in the last 20 years, with nearly 80% of all plastic ever produced ending up in a landfill or polluting our ecosystems. The time has come for a fundamental shift in how we make, use, and recycle plastic. And we must do it now.

Harnessing the influential power of music, we are thrilled to share with you our newest video featuring music by the iconic band U2. Together, we aim to rally global support for a pivotal cause: a global treaty to end plastic pollution.

"We have to wake up to the fact that single-use plastic is a biohazard. Today no human or animal is safe from its impacts. It’s a convenience that we cannot afford," said The Edge, the guitarist of U2.

In a landmark moment in 2022, 175 nations voted to adopt a United Nations-led treaty to end plastic pollution, signaling a united front against plastic pollution. The objective: to establish a legally binding and equitable treaty that holds all countries to a high common standard for plastic consumption, paving the way to a future free from plastic pollution. WWF stands at the forefront, advocating for swift ratification and enforcement of this crucial agreement. But we can’t do it alone.

"It will take everyone—businesses, governments, individuals, and even the biggest bands in the world to finally solve the plastic pollution crisis that is crushing our planet," said Erin Simon, WWF’s vice president and head of plastic waste and business. "If we truly want more beautiful days ahead—the time to act is now."
