Biden Admin climate action: Spring 2024
------------------------------------------------------------
President Biden commemorated the fifty-fourth anniversary of Earth Day by highlighting grant funding for rooftop solar and an expansion in benefits for the American Climate Corps. This spring, the Biden administration has continued its work to fulfill President Biden’s commitment to climate action, through ongoing implementation of the Biden Infrastructure Law, the Inflation Reduction Act, the CHIPS & Science Act, and other legislation.
Two of the Biden-Harris administration’s recent actions benefit the whole country, and one of them continues support for the Port of Oakland’s clean energy initiatives. The Biden-Harris administration has accomplished the following:
* issued the first-ever national, legally enforceable drinking water standard to restrict harmful per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS);
* published a final rule to maximize protections for more than 13 million acres in the western Arctic; and
* invested over $1 billion in hydrogen projects at the Port of Oakland as one of ten regional hubs to facilitate the production and utilization of renewable, clean hydrogen across California.

President Biden delivering for American workers
------------------------------------------------------------
The Biden Administration’s Department of Labor announced two new actions today that will put money in Americans’ pockets:
* The Federal Trade Commission has finalized a rule that bans non-compete agreements ([link removed]) . These agreements prohibit employees from changing jobs and taking their knowledge and experience with them, limiting their options and denying them the full market value of their labor. Now you’re able to seek a better job that will pay you your worth.
* The Department of Labor has finalized a rule that will raise the threshold for overtime pay for salaried workers ([link removed]) . Now, if you’re a salaried worker and you work more than forty hours a week and make less than $43,888 per year, as of July 1 you will qualify for overtime pay.
This builds on the series of actions President Biden’s Department of Labor has been taking to crack down on employer abuse, wage theft, and union busting.

Keep pushing: Help save rooftop solar in the California Legislature
------------------------------------------------------------
Last week, we asked you to help us urgently support Rooftop Solar bills AB 1999, AB 2256, and AB 2619. Thanks to your efforts, all of these bills are still alive, but currently delayed, with AB 1999 re-referred to the Rules committee. Our Assemblymember Phil Ting is also on that committee as well as the Utilities and Energy Committee, where the bills were originally being heard.
* AB 1999 ([link removed]) would stop the big Utility Tax by capping it at $10/month and prohibiting it from rising any faster than inflation.
* AB 2256 ([link removed]) would require the CPUC to include all the benefits of rooftop solar when deciding how much credit solar users receive.
* AB 2619 ([link removed]) would repeal the current system of solar credits and require the CPUC to revise their net metering decision to realign with the state's clean energy goals.
We need your calls today: tell Assemblymember Phil Ting to support AB 1999, AB 2256, and AB 2619. ([link removed])
