Jack, at present, a glaring disparity exists in how the United States funds Social Security.

While most American workers contribute to Social Security throughout the year, those at the highest income levels cease their contributions early in the year due to a payroll tax cap. This cap unfairly limits contributions from high earners, who might meet the cap in mere months, weeks, or even hours. This not only undermines the integrity of the Social Security system but also jeopardizes the security it promises to millions of Americans post-retirement.
In his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden addressed this inequity head-on, advocating for a system where the wealthy pay their fair share into Social Security. By lifting the payroll tax cap, we can ensure that those with the highest incomes contribute just as consistently as everyone else, thus bolstering the trust fund that millions depend on for their dignity and security in retirement.

P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier demanding that billionaires pay their fair share so we can fund Social Security:
Jack, in his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden made a powerful plea to protect and strengthen Social Security by having the wealthiest pay more.

While 94% of American workers contribute to Social Security throughout the year, high-income earners stop contributing after just a few months, weeks, days or even hours.
Proposed laws such as the Medicare and Social Security Fair Share Act and the Social Security 2100 Act aim to tackle the difficulties facing Social Security by requiring high earners to contribute towards the program on their entire income. This would help to increase benefits and ensure the long-term stability of the program.
We call on Congress to reject any attempts to cut Social Security. It's time to make millionaires and billionaires contribute to Social Security all year, just like the rest of us.
