A not from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...

** NORTHVILLE CITIZENS, BUSINESS OWNERS & COMMUNITY!
------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------

As we enter another week under the COVID-19 shelter-in-place, I am working to keep you as informed as possible. As always, I’m writing my weekly newsletter representing your City of Northville TEAM. I’ve been in steady contact with Federal, State, County & local municipal officials ... gathering as much information as possible to assist you & all in our community in fighting and responding to the COVID-19 virus. Our top priority is to keep our community of Northville as safe as possible.

** SPECIAL Q&A VIRTUAL TURNBULL TOWN HALL
------------------------------------------------------------
My goal is always to stay connected to all of you. It's been harder the last few week so to help answer your concerns and in response to requests, I’ve elected to conduct a virtual Town Hall Q&A meeting this
Thursday, April 9^th at 7:00 PM.

My goal is to answer as many questions as possible. You can engage on your phone, tablet or desktop computer.

Please use this link to join the virtual meeting: [link removed]

** The events of the last two weeks continue to be extraordinary, as the world moves toward the Easter Holiday as well as the celebration of Passover. Look at all that’s happened:
------------------------------------------------------------
* The CDC has given guidance to all citizens to protect themselves and to protect others by wearing a mask when out in public. Accordingly, I see people walking through Northville with masks, scarfs & bandanas… stay safe, stay healthy and stay informed.

* Most of the country, including our State of Michigan & the City of Northville are still under an order of “Stay Home. Stay Safe. ([link removed]) ” ... to protect you and all your loved ones in this community. Michigan is extending this order.
* Most states including Michigan have implemented shelter-in-place orders. I encourage people to stay home (except for essential trips to the pharmacy, grocery store, etc.), but stay close digitally with those you know & love in the community. Our goal is to keep everyone safe in Northville and flatten the curve of infection as quickly as possible… all the data & models shared with me suggests that the Northville community could reach our peak this week. As of the start of this week, the City of Northville had 6 COVID-19 infections, with the Township at 46.

* The auto companies & other businesses, including some in Northville, have been engaged to make ventilators, masks and other needed items under the Defense Production Act ([link removed]) .
* The $2.2 trillion relief package ([link removed]) has been approved through Congress. Other potential support could be coming in the near future from our federal government.
* Michigan as you know has been declared a major disaster area ([link removed]) by the federal government, thus giving us resources for a “Meals” program, “Rental Housing” aid, State-assistance by FEMA and the National Guard, as well as Field Hospital set ups by the Army Corp of Engineers.
* Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, that benefits restaurants, foodservice establishments & employees (the Payback Protection Program is part of this). For additional info, click here ([link removed]) .
* The 2020 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, as many of you know by now, is cancelled … FEMA has selected the TCF Center (Cobo – our auto show venue) as a field hospital site for COVID-19 cases. In Novi, the Suburban Collection Showplace has also been converted to a 1200 bed COVID-19 hospital… and Northville Downs has even offered their facility as a medical support center for the county.

* Playgrounds & other gathering places have been closed.
* I have supported keeping Ford Field & The Mill Race Grounds open for walking, provided folks follow the guidelines of maintaining distance, avoiding congregating in groups and avoiding equipment which has been taped off because it is not being sanitized. Our Public Safety Team is continuously monitoring these three facilities for your safety, along with other areas in town. ⠀

* I encourage you to get out & walk, but please keep a safe distance as outlined by the CDC. Also, please wear a mask when in public, especially in the town square where there are metallic surfaces that could be a conduit for the virus.
* Additionally, it’s up to us to assist our local Northville Civic Concern activity on 7 Mile & Northville Road. Northville’s Civic Concern has 157 families they support, and they help provide over 300 meals daily for our youth. Please reach each out to assist them or others in need around our community during this once-in-a-lifetime event.

Also, good news – local small business grants & loan programs have been developed by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation ($20 Million) ([link removed]) that our local businesses can apply for. Additionally, there is an additional $10 Million from Wayne & Oakland County ([link removed]) for local businesses in need. Most recently, Wayne county on 4/6 added another $2 Million to broaden small business relief.

Communication continues to be a top priority for all of us …
At the federal, state & especially our local Northville Area, we will reengage when it is safe again with live meetings. For now, any city meetings we do conduct will be done via Zoom or other digital tools, so all can participate in a safe manner.

SCHOOL UPDATE
* As many of us are very aware, the Governor has closed all K-12 buildings & colleges, and recently called off school for the rest of the school year, giving the individual school districts leeway. Northville school officials will share with you soon how they anticipate handling education of our students for the rest of the school year. ([link removed]) Additionally, Northville Schools have posted shutdowns of their playgrounds, athletic fields & track facilities for your safety.

What does this all mean for you?

Northville City Operations
As you may know from our previous communications, the following actions have taken place:
* Senior Transportation (medical, grocery shopping, work) will continue at this time.
* All Activities / Meetings / Gathering for the city have been suspended, for your safety.
* Essential Businesses will remain open: Grocery stores, Take out restaurants, pharmacies, gas stations, liquor stores, banks, auto service & pet stores. (FYI - Northville’s Bank of America was closed for Cleaning/Sterilizing for your safety & employees were quarantined after a person with COVID-19 entered there).

Service by your Northville Police, Fire, Advanced Life Support Staff & First Responders will continue for your safety without interruption.
* We’ll continue to coordinate response efforts & best practices with surrounding communities.
* Please help support our First Responders by calling 911 only when it’s critical... and thank them for their service when you see them, along with all our dedicated Medical personnel. I especially support all the Northvillian’s who put white bows out this weekend to thank our Health Care Workers, Public Safety officials and all those in harm’s way on our behalf.

In Conclusion …
Many of you have heard me say, we don't have all the answers. The truth is, no one does, but I can assure you that your Northville officials, including the entire staff & myself, are doing everything we can for your safety. ⠀
Again, here are a few tips I’m personally following & encourage you to do the same: ⠀
* Best practices shared by the CDC ([link removed]) , know the symptoms & stay home …

* Support your local businesses in Northville – the survival of many of your favorite businesses is dependent on our support now. Consider buying gift cards for local stores to use later.
* Reach out & check-in with our seniors, family members, friends and others who are part of your lives. Keep your distance socially but connect tightly digitally (Via phone, text, facetime & emails to those you love) ... check up on your Friends, Work Mates & seniors you know.

Keep family & friends in the community at a safe distance but reach out and talk to as many people as possible especially our seniors to keep everyone’s spirits up.
